Hello everybody! We know it’s been awhile
since we have updated this page, but we’ve been busy working on the track and
trying to keep it in great shape. We suffered quite a lot of rain during the
first couple of months of the track’s operation this season, and therefore, we
have had to work extra hard to keep everything in safe working order.
So far this season, our Friday night racing
has been a great success! We have had a slew of riders every single week, and
the competition is fierce! There are a bunch of riders making their transitions
from the Rookie classes to Novice, and that has made for a much more successful
intermediate competition level. Those experts out there should also be proud of
themselves, as they have worked hard and diligently to get where they are.
We have been pretty lucky as far as Mother
Nature goes, with only 2 cancellations so far due to excessive rain and
thunderstorms.
On Saturday, July 8th, Whip City
hosted its first State Double Points Race of the season. What a gorgeous day we
had! Approximately 160 riders made it out to our track to compete for points
toward a 2000 State Plate. Riders from all over the state ventured out to
Westfield, from as far as Cape Cod! We had the chance to witness some serious
racing and great competition. The day ran smoothly and the races ran quickly,
and trophies were guaranteed to 4th place! We did have an
unfortunate incident, however, when local cruiser rider Rich Marceau crashed
during practice and fractured his collarbone. Other than that bad news,
everyone else pretty much stayed out of trouble that day.
If you haven’t had the chance to make it out
to Whip City yet this season, you have plenty more chances coming up. And if
Friday nights are just too much for you, we are hosting another State Double
Points Race on Saturday, August 5th. Sign-ups are from 9 - 11 a.m.,
and the gate drops at 12 noon!
We look forward to seeing you!
Update !!
Whip City BMX
State Race #2 - Saturday, August 5th, 2000
Well, we hosted an excellent second Massachusetts State Series race last Saturday, August 5th. Once again, we were lucky to be blessed with blue skies and fairly dry, hot weather. We had a great bunch of people both volunteering and racing, and the day ran even more smoothly than the last State Race. All motos and qualifiers were completed by 2:00 p.m. sharp! You have to admit, that must be some kind of BMX State Race record. We had few crashes and no serious injuries, which helped to run things right along.
We have two new announcers at Whip City BMX! We welcome Mike Hogan and Sarah Presson to our volunteer staff. They’ve jumped right in and begun learning the ins and outs of racing, with the help of senior announcer, Ray. Since neither of these two are all that familiar with the sport of BMX, it has taken a lot of guts and patience for them to learn how to get up in the tower in front of hundreds of racers and race fans and try their hands at announcing. We appreciate all of our volunteers; we couldn’t do it without them.
Whip City will be hosting the Massachusetts State Series Championship on Saturday, September 30th, 2000. It should be even better than the last two State Races, with plenty of action and only the best riders who have qualified for the final race. We hope to see you there!
